BJP Leader Among Three Burnt Alive in Chhattisgarh
The incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Sonhat police station area of Koriya district. According to police, the violence erupted between two groups over illegal sand mining in Naugai village. The deceased have been identified as BJP leader Bharat Singh alias Lalla Singh, his brother Nagendra Singh (a teacher), and Virendra Singh.
The accused allegedly blocked the road, hit the Fortuner with a truck, and then set it on fire. The occupants could not escape as the vehicle was locked from inside. Bharat Singh died on the spot, while Virendra Singh succumbed to burn injuries later. Nagendra Singh was 80% burnt and died during treatment.
Three other people were seriously injured and have been referred to Raipur for advanced treatment.
The police have registered a case against nine named accused under serious sections including murder and attempt to murder. Four people have been arrested so far, while the search for the remaining accused is underway.
This incident has created tension in the entire area and heavy police force has been deployed. Senior police officials, including IG Sarguja Range Deepak Jha, reached the spot late at night and reviewed the situation.
The incident has also drawn political reactions. Local MLA Bhaiyalal Rajwade expressed deep sorrow and said such an incident has never happened before in Koriya district. Former MLA Gulab Kamro also strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict action against the culprits.
This brutal killing has once again highlighted the dangers of illegal sand mining and the rising law and order concerns in the region.
