Dancer Dragged Off Stage, Shot Dead for Protesting

A horrific incident took place during a wedding ceremony in Gopalganj district of Bihar that turned the festive atmosphere into mourning. A dancer performing for the baraat was forcibly dragged off the stage by some men. When he resisted, he was shot in the stomach and died on the way to the hospital.

The incident occurred in Patohwa village under Kateya police station area. The wedding was of Mahendra’s daughter. A dance-drama troupe from Uttar Pradesh had been called for the entertainment of the baraat members.

32-year-old Sonu Gond, a resident of Mahua Patan village in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, was performing when some youths allegedly dragged him off the stage towards a secluded area.

Sonu’s fellow artist Ramayan Yadav said that some youths had wrong intentions. When Sonu refused to go with them and tried to free himself, the attackers shot him in the stomach.

As soon as the gunshot was heard, panic broke out at the venue. People started running in different directions.

The injured Sonu was rushed to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Police reached the spot after receiving information and started an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem. An FSL team has also been called to collect evidence.

Gopalganj police have formed teams under the leadership of Hathua SDPO to identify and arrest the accused.
