Bangladesh etched its name in cricket history by securing its first-ever Test victory against Australia on Australian soil, triumphing by 9 wickets in the opening match at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin. Chasing a modest target of 57 runs in their second innings, the visitors comfortably crossed the finish line on day four. The historic win was anchored by fast bowler Hasan Mahmud, who claimed a total of 9 wickets across the match, and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who contributed a vital 65 runs alongside a five-wicket haul in Australia's second innings.

Australia had struggled in their first innings, posting 198 after winning the toss, while a formidable response from Bangladesh saw them rack up 426 runs, built on a century by opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim and strong knocks from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Miraz. Despite a resilient 104-run century by Cameron Green in Australia's second innings, the hosts were bundled out for 284, leaving Bangladesh a straightforward target. This marks only the second Test victory for Bangladesh against Australia overall, following their historic 2017 win in Mirpur. The second and final Test of the series is scheduled to begin on August 22 in Mackay.
