A unique incident showcasing Kerala’s deep passion for football occurred on Wednesday night in Kanjoor, Ernakulam district. When power went out during the Portugal vs DR Congo World Cup match, some Cristiano Ronaldo fans went straight to the local Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) field office.

The young fans sat inside the office and continued watching the match on their mobile phones. They even invited the on-duty officer to join them. The visuals showed the protesters sitting inside the KSEB office and watching the match together.

The fans said, “When people are watching football at home, why is the power being cut? The entire state is watching the World Cup. Why impose load shedding now? We have come here to protest and will come again tomorrow if the power goes off.”

This protest happened at a time when KSEB announced that due to a sharp shortage of electricity, limited restrictions may be imposed across the state from 6 PM to midnight until June 30. The board cited increased demand and reduced power availability across the country.

The incident highlights the football craze in Kerala, where fans refused to miss Ronaldo’s match and took their protest directly to the electricity board office. While the fans watched the match inside the office, KSEB has warned of power restrictions in the coming days.
