Monsoon Finally Picks Up Speed

The southwest monsoon has finally arrived in Delhi. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it reached the capital on July 2, five days behind the normal date of June 27.

This is the latest arrival in the last five years. Heavy rains brought much-needed relief from the humid heat. The IMD has forecast more rainfall in the coming days, though overall monsoon rainfall this year is expected to be below normal due to El Niño.
