Addressing the Border District Superintendents of Police Conference-2026 in New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that border security is being modernized. It will now be a collaborative effort involving central and state governments, district administrations, security agencies, and locals. The government is implementing a 'Smart Border' concept equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital surveillance, anti-drone systems, smart sensors, and an Integrated Command and Control Center. A 'Quadrilateral Security Grid' is also being developed for real-time intelligence sharing to proactively identify and neutralize threats. Shah outlined three pillars of the border security policy: secure borders, prosperous border areas, and an aware society. He noted that investment in border infrastructure has increased by about 400% under the Modi government, with initiatives like the Vibrant Village Program bringing employment and facilities to prevent migration. Furthermore, a Rs 31,000 crore project to fence approximately 1,610 km of the Indo-Myanmar border is progressing rapidly to check illegal infiltration, weapons and drug smuggling, radicalization, and organized crime.
