Somvati Amavasya is considered a highly auspicious day in Hinduism. When Amavasya falls on a Monday, it is called Somvati Amavasya. This day is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the Moon God, which increases its importance manifold.

On June 15, 2026, Somvati Amavasya is being observed. Taking a holy bath in sacred rivers, performing charity, and offering Tarpan to ancestors are of special importance on this day. Married women observe fast for the long life and happiness of their husbands and perform Parikrama of the Peepal tree.

### Important Rituals and Remedies on Somvati Amavasya

- Wake up early in the morning and avoid sleeping till late.
- Maintain complete Satvik behaviour throughout the day. Avoid consuming non-vegetarian food, alcohol, garlic, and onion.
- Offer Tarpan to ancestors using a copper vessel with Ganga water, raw milk, sesame seeds, and barley.
- Donate food, clothes, or black sesame seeds to the needy in the name of ancestors.
- Feed cows, crows, and dogs.
- Light a lamp under the Peepal tree and perform 108 Parikramas while holding rice grains, makhana, or sweets in your hand. Donate the items afterwards.
- For wealth and prosperity, offer raw milk and honey on Shivling and worship Lord Shiva with Belpatra and Dhatura.
- Light a ghee lamp near the Tulsi plant in the evening and chant the mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” while performing Parikrama.

This day is considered very powerful for removing Pitra Dosh and bringing peace and prosperity in life. It is believed that negative energies are more active on Amavasya night, so one should avoid visiting cremation grounds, cemeteries, or deserted places after dark.
