Tension on Border Over Pushback of Infiltrators

📅 June 21, 2026 🏷️ India
Tension has escalated on the India-Bangladesh border in Malda district of West Bengal, particularly in the Sukhdevpur border area under Baishnabnagar police station jurisdiction.

According to sources, several Bangladeshi nationals took advantage of unfenced sections and entered Indian territory. On Saturday, the Border Security Force (BSF) detained these individuals and attempted to push them back into Bangladesh.

However, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stopped them. This has led to heavy tension in the border area, and the situation remains highly volatile. Along with BGB personnel, a large number of Bangladeshi civilians have also gathered near the border.

BSF has barred Indian citizens from approaching the border area. A red alert has been issued and a high alert declared.

Recently, Bangladesh’s Home Minister criticised India’s ongoing ‘push-in’ operations on the border. He claimed that since the assembly elections in West Bengal, BGB has stopped 36 push-in attempts by BSF.

This border tension comes amid ongoing diplomatic exchanges between the two countries.
