Throwing Coins in Rivers: Right or Wrong?

The tradition of throwing coins into rivers to fulfil wishes is common in many cultures. However, spiritual leader Premānand Maharaj has questioned this practice.

In response to a devotee’s question, Maharaj said there is no scriptural injunction for throwing coins in holy rivers like Ganga or Yamuna. He advised people to make small balls of flour (aata) and offer them instead, so that fish and other aquatic creatures can eat them.

He pointed out that coins only pollute the rivers and are often collected by children using magnets. Maharaj urged devotees to use their faith wisely — instead of throwing money, one should donate food, help the sick, or feed cows.
