In what is being hailed as a major game-changer for the aviation industry, American startup Heart Aerospace successfully completed the first test flight of its all-electric aircraft 'X1'. Taking off from Plattsburgh International Airport in New York, the aircraft spent 27 minutes in the air, reaching an altitude of 1,100 feet before landing safely. With a length of 76 feet and a wingspan of roughly 106 feet, the X1 weighed over 25,000 pounds at takeoff yet flew entirely on an electric powertrain, consuming electricity worth just $5 (approx. Rs 480) for the entire test. The X1 serves as a crucial testing platform for the company's upcoming 'ES-30' hybrid-electric aircraft, designed to carry 30 passengers for up to 500 miles. Heart Aerospace aims to achieve type certification for the ES-30 by 2031, with pre-production manufacturing already underway in Los Angeles and flight testing targeted for 2028.
