Cinema vs Politics

The film, based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, was removed from ZEE5 shortly after release, triggering strong reactions from Akali Dal, SGPC and Sikh organisations.

This is not the first time a film has influenced Punjab politics. Earlier, ‘Machis’ (1996) and ‘Udta Punjab’ (2016) also became major political talking points before assembly elections.
