Dalit Youth Murdered Brutally While Buying Gutkha
Anand had gone to the chowraha on his motorcycle to buy gutkha when the accused, Nasir Ali and his associates, attacked him from behind with a sharp weapon. The accused had an old grudge against the victim.
After the murder, angry villagers blocked the road, set fire to the accused’s house and several shops. Heavy police force was deployed to control the situation.
The victim’s family and villagers gathered at the mortuary and refused to perform the last rites until the main accused was encountered and his house was bulldozed. The family also demanded justice for a previous incident three months ago when three men had tried to rape a woman in their house and looted valuables.
Senior police and administrative officials reached the spot and assured strict action. The administration announced a compensation of Rs 9 lakh, a contractual government job for one family member, and regular maintenance allowance for the children.
After receiving these assurances, the family agreed to perform the last rites. The police have registered a case and arrested four people so far. The search for the remaining accused is underway.
This brutal murder has once again raised serious concerns about law and order and crimes against Dalits in the state.
