Double Blow for Pakistan After Loss to India
According to the ICC, Pakistan failed to complete their overs within the stipulated time, even after accounting for all permitted time allowances. The team was found one over short, resulting in a 5% match fee penalty imposed by match referee Trudy Anderson.
This penalty was applied under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana accepted the charge and the proposed sanction, so no formal hearing was required.
In the match, India batted first and posted 170 runs. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for just 106 runs, suffering a comprehensive 64-run defeat. Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma starred for India with the bat and ball respectively.
Pakistan will now look to bounce back in their next match against South Africa on June 17 at the same venue.
This incident highlights the strict enforcement of over-rate rules by the ICC in international tournaments. Slow over rates not only attract financial penalties but can also impact team morale during a major event like the World Cup.
