Melting Roads and Warped Tracks in Europe

Europe is reeling under a severe heatwave with temperatures crossing 40°C in several countries. The extreme heat is now affecting infrastructure — roads are melting in France, tram tracks are bending in Germany, and long queues are forming outside AC stores.

Power supply has been affected and output from some nuclear plants reduced due to hot rivers. Hospitals are under pressure and red alerts have been issued in many areas.

Experts link this to climate change, saying such ‘once-in-a-century’ heatwaves are becoming more frequent. Videos of melting roads, crowded beaches and long AC queues have gone viral on social media.
