New US Condition on Iran’s Frozen Funds

New US Condition on Iran’s Frozen Funds

📅 June 27, 2026 🏷️ International
Amid ongoing talks in Switzerland after a ceasefire, a new dispute has emerged between the US and Iran over the release of $12 billion in frozen Iranian funds.

The US, through Vice President JD Vance and President Trump, has proposed that the money should be used only to purchase agricultural products like wheat, maize, and soybeans from American farmers. This, they say, will help Iran meet its food needs while benefiting US farmers.

Iran has strongly rejected the condition, asserting that once the funds are released, it has full sovereign right to decide how to use them. Iranian officials said purchases will be based on quality, price, and need, not dictated by the US.

Experts warn that such differences could complicate the final peace agreement.
