PhonePe to Charge Fee on Inactive Wallets
The company has updated its wallet guidelines. According to the new rules, if a PhonePe user does not use their wallet for 365 days, an inactivity maintenance fee of Rs 100 will be charged.
Many users have expressed displeasure over this new rule. Several people have posted about it on social media. One user on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out that many users do not use the PhonePe Wallet and prefer to make direct UPI payments from their bank accounts. Some users called it unfair to charge a fee for a feature they do not use.
### Who will be charged Rs 100?
The Rs 100 fee will only apply to users who have not made any transaction from their PhonePe Wallet for one year. Simply opening the PhonePe app or making UPI payments will not be considered wallet activity. To avoid the fee, users must make at least one transaction using the wallet, which will reactivate it.
### Alert message 15 days in advance
PhonePe will send a message to users 15 days before charging the fee. If there is a balance in the wallet, the company will directly deduct Rs 100. If the wallet has less than Rs 100, the entire balance will be deducted. However, the balance will not go negative.
