Shreyanka Patil Ruled Out of T20 World Cup
The injury occurred in the final over of the powerplay while Shreyanka was trying to stop a ball. Her ankle twisted, and she was seen in visible pain. After a medical assessment, she was taken off the field. It has now been confirmed that she will not be able to participate in the rest of the tournament.
The Indian team management has named 24-year-old leg-spinner Prema Rawat as her replacement. Prema, who has not yet made her international debut, has received approval from the ICC Technical Committee.
Prema Rawat has played six matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) over the last two seasons, taking three wickets. She has also performed impressively in domestic cricket, playing a key role in helping Uttarakhand win the Senior Women’s Domestic Championship.
However, filling Shreyanka’s shoes will not be easy for India. Her agile fielding has been a major strength for the team. She is also considered an aggressive option against left-handed batters and has been a reliable death bowler for the captain.
In the current Indian squad, only four bowlers have bowled at least 15 overs in the death phase in the WPL, with Shreyanka Patil and Nandini Sharma having the most impressive numbers. Her absence could impact India’s death bowling strategy.
Shreyanka has been battling injuries for the past two years and has missed several matches. This new setback is disappointing for her as well.
The biggest question now is whether the Indian team will directly include Prema Rawat in the playing XI for the next match or rely on the experienced spinner Radha Yadav. Both players are good fielders and can contribute with the bat in the lower order.
Along with this, there may be some changes in the Indian fast bowling unit as Shreyanka was often given responsibility for specific match-ups and death overs. In her absence, the team management will have to prepare a new strategy.
India will now face South Africa in a crucial group stage match at Old Trafford on June 21. This match is considered decisive in terms of the semi-final race. Shreyanka Patil’s absence has become a matter of concern for Team India.
