Widespread Devastation Due to Heavy Rains and Landslides in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Nagaland
Jammu and Kashmir (Poonch):
- Severe flooding and landslides in Poonch district claimed 12 lives, with Surankot suffering the worst blow where 9 people from a single family died.
- At least 7 homes were damaged, and lower areas remain waterlogged. SDRF, NDRF, and local administration are utilizing boats, drones, and helicopters for rescue operations.
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with LG Manoj Sinha and CM Omar Abdullah, assuring full central support, financial aid, and expedited rehabilitation.
Himachal Pradesh (Chamba):
- A massive landslide on the Lahdu-Sihunta road in the Bhatiyat area of Chamba brought an entire mountainside crashing down, completely blocking the crucial route connecting Dharamshala, Chamba, and Dalhousie. Fortunately, no vehicles or pedestrians were caught in the immediate collapse.
Nagaland (Mon):
- Heavy rains in Mon city triggered severe landslides, resulting in 3 fatalities and leaving four others missing.
- Around 10 to 15 concrete and residential houses were buried or washed away. Assam Rifles, NDRF, and Nagaland Police are battling adverse weather conditions to conduct rescue and relief operations. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy CM Yanthungo Patton expressed grief and are closely monitoring the situation.
