In Vidur Niti from the Mahabharata, the great scholar Vidur described five habits that make a person a mahamurkh (great fool). These habits destroy respect, success, and peace of mind.

1. Arrogance (Ahankar): Thinking oneself superior and ignoring others’ advice leads to wrong decisions. Example: Duryodhana.

2. Anger (Krodh): Uncontrolled anger is man’s biggest enemy and leads to regretful actions.

3. Laziness (Aalsya): Procrastinating important work prevents progress in life.

4. Jealousy (Jalna): Being unhappy with others’ success destroys one’s own potential. Example: Duryodhana’s jealousy towards Pandavas.

5. Greed (Lobh): Endless desire never lets a person be satisfied and pushes them towards wrong paths.

To avoid these, one should practice humility, control anger, set daily goals, take inspiration from others, and remain content with what one has.
