Netanyahu Not Fully in Agreement with Trump on US-Iran Deal
Speaking to the media, Netanyahu said, "We have saved Israel from destruction, but our fight is not over yet." He added that irrespective of any agreement, Iran will not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons. Netanyahu acknowledged that he and Trump do not always see eye to eye, but they remain strong partners.
He emphasised that Israel will maintain its freedom to act against threats in the region, including in Lebanon. Netanyahu also mentioned that Israeli forces will continue to hold key buffer zones to ensure security against Hezbollah.
On the other hand, President Trump has openly expressed displeasure over Netanyahu’s military strategy in Lebanon. Trump believes that continued Israeli actions could have derailed the peace talks with Iran. He remarked that Syria might be able to handle Hezbollah better than Israel and criticised the high civilian casualties in Israeli operations.
Despite these differences, Trump maintained that his personal relationship with Netanyahu remains strong.
The US-Iran deal is scheduled to be formally signed in Geneva on Friday. It includes provisions for lifting the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and easing some sanctions on Iran in exchange for nuclear restrictions. Netanyahu has warned that Israel will not rely solely on this agreement and will take all necessary steps to neutralise the Iranian nuclear threat.
