Team India Scripts Record-Breaking Innings Victory Over Afghanistan

Mullapur (New Chandigarh), June 8, 2026: In a display of sheer dominance and clinical execution, India demolished Afghanistan by a massive innings and 300 runs inside just three days at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. This victory not only marks India’s biggest innings win in Test cricket history but also sends a powerful message about their supremacy in home conditions.

The previous record of an innings and 272-run victory against West Indies in Rajkot (2018) was comfortably shattered, underlining the current Indian team’s frightening depth and hunger for big wins.

India’s Commanding First Innings

Captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first on a pitch that offered good bounce and carry. The Indian batters responded with authority, posting a formidable 564 for 8 declared in 127 overs.

Gill led from the front with a magnificent 126 off 177 balls, his 11th Test century. Opener KL Rahul played a composed knock of 100 off 165 balls. Middle-order batters Sai Sudharsan (81) and Rishabh Pant (81) kept the momentum going, while all-rounder Washington Sundar remained unbeaten on 52, adding crucial lower-order runs.

Afghanistan’s Double Collapse

Afghanistan’s batting woes continued as they were skittled out for a paltry 152 in their first innings. Debutant left-arm spinner Manav Suthar stole the limelight with a sensational 6-wicket haul on his Test debut, troubling the batters with sharp turn and accuracy.

With a massive 412-run lead, India enforced the follow-on. Afghanistan’s second innings was even more disappointing as they folded for just 112 in 35.5 overs. Sedikullah Atal top-scored with 42, but the rest of the batting lineup offered minimal resistance.

Outstanding Bowling Performance

Manav Suthar continued his dream debut by taking more wickets in the second innings as well. Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav shared the remaining spoils efficiently. The Indian spinners exploited the wearing pitch beautifully, exposing Afghanistan’s vulnerability against quality spin bowling.

The Indian team celebrated the historic win together on the field as the match concluded in the third session of Day 3. This result will undoubtedly boost team morale ahead of the tougher assignments in the Test season.
