Yoga on the Waves of Hooghly, History to be Created with 500 Boats
On June 21, more than 500 tourist and passenger boats will gather on the Hooghly River, where thousands of people will perform yoga and attempt to create a record.
According to the organisers, the main event will be held on Red Road, while a special yoga session will take place on over 500 boats in the Hooghly River.
The boats, including those coming from the Sundarbans, will be arranged in such a way that yoga poses will be visible from the sky. This unique riverside yoga session is expected to become one of the most talked-about visuals of this year’s International Yoga Day.
The theme for this year’s International Yoga Day is 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing'. The government and yoga organisations are working to spread this message.
This event in Kolkata is special because it combines the scenic beauty of the river with the collective energy of people performing yoga on boats. Organisers are also trying to get it recognised as a Guinness World Record for the largest group yoga session on boats.
This grand celebration reflects Bengal’s deep connection with yoga and its efforts to promote wellness on a massive scale.
