Fish Also Fall Sick During Monsoon

Just having water in a pond is not enough for fish. Water quality and maintenance according to the season are very important, especially during monsoon. Fisheries experts advise special care for fish during July-August as monsoon can bring diseases along with relief from heat.

Key tips for fish farming in monsoon:

• Feed brood fish properly — 2-3% of their body weight daily.
• Use 10g mineral mixture and 5g gut probiotics per kg of supplementary feed.
• In nursery ponds, stock 15-20 lakh spawn per acre.
• Use chemical fertilizers only after 15 days of stocking spawn.
• For grow-out ponds, stock 3000 yearlings (50g) or 2000 (100g) per acre.
• Use aerators in semi-dense farming.
• Apply lime every 15 days as per pH level (10-15 kg per acre).
• Use organic manure like cow dung (400 kg/acre) and mustard oil cake (100 kg/acre).
• Apply Single Super Phosphate solution (15-20 kg/acre).
• Maintain 15-day gap between organic and chemical fertilizers.
• Stop fertilisers if water turns too green.
• Avoid supplementary feeding during bad weather.
• Use Potassium Permanganate solution (400g/acre) monthly to prevent infections.
