Green Urea Revolution to Begin in India

The Union Fertilizer Ministry is actively promoting Green Urea production. A 150 TPD pilot plant will be set up in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, by NTPC’s research wing NETRA. The project will use Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCUS) along with green hydrogen technology.

ICAR is already testing Green Ammonia on various crops. The government plans to provide financial support through multiple ministries and is working on a system to integrate Green Ammonia into the fertilizer supply chain at subsidised rates.

India imports around 100 lakh tonnes of urea annually. Green Urea is seen as a key step towards self-reliance in fertilizers and achieving the Net Zero target by 2070. The pilot project will also help capture COâ‚‚ from thermal power plants, cement, and steel industries.
