Good news for sugarcane farmers in Bihar. The process to revive cooperative sugar mills in Raiyam and Sakri has gained momentum. The Cooperative Department has given permission to form primary sugar mill cooperative societies in both places.

More than 2,400 villages have been linked to this project. This is expected to provide better opportunities for farmers to sell their produce and increase their income.

The Sugarcane Industry Department has issued notifications defining the areas for both mills. A total of 2,401 villages have been reserved for Raiyam and Sakri mills. Farmers from these areas will get the opportunity to directly connect with these mills.

The Cooperative Department has set clear rules for selecting farmer members. A general farmer must have at least 100 decimal land under sugarcane or have the intention to cultivate it. For SC, OBC, Extremely Backward Class, and women farmers, this limit has been reduced to 50 decimal.

An entry fee of Rs 500 and a share value of Rs 1,000 have been fixed. This arrangement has been prepared to connect small and marginal farmers with the cooperative model.

Cooperation Minister Ram Kripal Yadav directed officials to complete all processes quickly and ensure registration of cooperative societies at the earliest. He said this project will not only increase the income of sugarcane farmers but also create new employment opportunities in the region.

A special digital system has also been prepared for connecting farmers. An online portal for membership of cooperative societies will be launched soon.

If this project is completed on time, it will directly benefit sugarcane farmers. Local purchase facilities will improve, dependence on middlemen will reduce, and better prices are expected. Overall, the establishment of sugar mills in Raiyam and Sakri is being seen as a new beginning for Biharโ€™s sugarcane industry.
